flypop has unveiled its new corporate headquarters at Endeavour House, Stansted Airport (STN).

The airline plans to operate a non-stop service to two of India’s key cities - Amritsar (ATQ) in Punjab and Ahmedabad (AMD) in Gujarat - from London Stansted Airport when it launches.

Stansted’s direct train express link to London’s Liverpool St. station makes it easily accessible from the capital while there are also excellent rail links from Stansted to Leicester and Birmingham.

Situated close to Junction 8 of the M11 and easy to get to from the M25, Stansted is also conveniently located for those travelling by road.

70% of the UK’s 4 million Indian & South Asian diaspora live within a two hour drive of Stansted. Over 1.5 million UK Indians are close to or within easy reach of London Stansted, including 900,000 in London and the southern regions of England and 363,000 in the Midlands.

Of these, the largest concentrations are in London’s boroughs where there are more Asians than in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy and Portugal combined. Outside London and the South, the Midlands has the second largest concentration of Asians in the UK with ethnic groups set to become the majority in Leicester – the largest of which is the Indian community (28.3%).

The major Sikh communities for Amritsar flights are in London, Bedford, Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Bradford and Leeds with smaller populations in Liverpool and Huddersfield. The UK also has a population of around 813,000 Gujaratis for Ahmedabad. This is the largest overseas Gujarati community - bigger than New York City and Toronto combined (these two cities are home to the second and third largest Gujarati communities in the world respectively).

(Nino) Navdip Singh Judge, CEO & Founder of flypop, said:
“Stansted is a great base for our long haul flights to India. A lot of investment has been put into the airport which makes it great for start-ups like flypop.”

Directly targeting the growing VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) market, flypop is also looking at other regional UK airports to operate services to India and South Asia including East Midlands and Birmingham Airports. Today, around 500,000 seats a month link India and the UK, either directly or indirectly, but the market is growing rapidly thanks to India’s increasing prosperity, rapid urbanisation and industrial development.

flypop is hoping to start with a passenger feed agreement with one of the major LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) that operate out of Stansted to Europe.

The company has just closed a successful Seed Round fund raise of £100,000. And for its final regulatory funding round, it has so far received commitments for £2 million. All new funds will be held in a solicitor’s escrow account until the service is approved for flying by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. The carrier plans to raise a total of £6 million by the end of 2019.
